mmmmmmmmm depends on how much noise its making lol . This un , the fecked one , or at least the latest fecked one , was very noisey after running for an hour or so. ( the other one is as quiet as a mouse in slippers ) but after the comp man did the windows recovery consul thing its now very quiet. It probably gets switched off mmmmmm 4 times a day from 8ish till midnightish

You have to remember that dodgy power supplies can cause different symptoms. From issues that appear to be software problems, to completely cutting out. Depends what's wrong with it.
Laptops...
That's a tricky call at the moment. I'm no fan of Vista either, but I'm not sure retrofitting XP is a particularly good idea. The trouble is, Windows 7 will probably ship in Oct/Nov, so with XP you're gonna be two generations behind, and doubtless with MS looking to ditch any support at all for it.
Which reminds me. Must flog the XP laptop I'm using right now to some poor sap...

there wasnt many that could run 98 for several years without updates or anti virus and wires that would attempt electricution if you got within a foot of them

Oh bollox ..you were happy with your new comp almost as soon as you had it and used to XP within a day or two .And the only reason you dont get on with comps is cos you let them frighten you lol

I'm also using an Acer Aspire, a 5050. Bought second-hand and running XP. It's nice and fast.
Previous one was an Asus running Vista. Grief it was sooo slow. Didn't even have much installed on it but it would stop for minutes at a time. It was OK once I beefed up the memory to 3gb, but I sold it anyway.
I don't mind using Vista at all. It has its problems but nothing I couldn't work around. It just needs a lot more grunt to do very little more than XP.
Windows 7 is looking rather good though. It also has XP virtualization so should be better than Vista for those of us with older software we still need to run.

yea this is one of the things that has put me off vista -the fact that so many say it wont run old software .And some of my software is very old lol and I dont want to change it cos its good .Doesnt matter for Angela's one cos I'll only use it in emergencies and wont need me software .Fecking neat though .I was surprised at how nifty and fast a laptop can be ...and a decent sized monitor and keyboard as well
