;D
It's sounds like a massive attack of junk mails ,though Ive never known 1203 mails to come through all at once .I get those daemon/ postmaster ones in google mail sometimes .They are now marked as junk and go straight into junk mail .I dont know what email you use but you can probably either mark them as junk or block the addy completely .Don't open them . Oh and to be on the safe side run a virus check on your comp

"the first parts are other peoples names etc.."
Are these names in your address book? It does sound like a virus, one that hijacks your email client and sends copies of itself to all your contacts. In this case it isn't working though, as the mails are being bounced back from your ISP's mail server (the 'daemon') as undeliverable.
It could just be that your ISPs mail server has thrown an eppy, and it's nothing for you to worry about, but a virus would be my guess in this case.

Thanks chaps and chappettes - None are names in my mailbox. Have rebooted. Have got them marked as junk. All have no virus attached as per AVG.
With any luck as has been said - just a fluke download.
Luckily I have my mail set so I don't have to open mail to view have it in bottom RHS box so can see what in mail at start - so if not needed I just delete without opening anyway.

No .. it could be a virus thats sending them in the first place .Which is why you should check your comp for viruses / worms etc . It does sound a bit like a fluke thing however .I'd only start worrying if it happened continually lol

If there is no virus on your machine then I reckon your email addy has been 'spoofed'. Basically, a program is sending out spam and pretending you are the originator. It's likely sent out many thousands, and the 1200+ bounced back to you were sent to addys that are no longer extant, or are blocking any unkown sender, etc... Hopefully you won't get any more, as your ISP should have picked up on the unusual traffic and blocked it. Hope that makes sense. You can read all about it on Wiki if you like. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-mail_spoofing

Thanks all for input - this morning thought I was going mad! - All were times 00:30 and after up until 00:45 - Have not received anymore so am hoping it was just a spoof. Have ran all check pro-grammes to make sure all is safe and system shows no virus etc. Being such a pleb re computers need all the help can get in line of reassurance when anything silly happens.
Thanks again all!!!!!

For all the lazy so and so's out there who do no back ups may I recomend Windows Live Mail. My PC blew up and I had to get a new one so lost everything. But low and behold after putting Windows Live Mail back on with the old password etc. There was not only my Adress Book but all my old e mails with important infos and such. Even managed to find my way back in here
