Ah, well that's good. You know anyone else reading this is going to think we're a bunch of lunatics though?
Still, got there in the end, more or less.

Yes, well they'd be right wouldnt they ?
Remains to be seen if we're there or not lol.Yord has still to try the saving to desktop option and it usually takes days to persuade him to download a new prog that makes things easier ( bad memories of what used to happen when he downloaded new progs on win98 comp ).However my knowledge has broadened again. The more yord techy threads there are the better I get at sorting me own comp out ;D

You got a website pregnant?! But... I thought you were female?
Yeah, I do remember Yord being very mistrustful of downloading anything. Fair enough too, as those were the days when so much crap was being engineered into free utilities and the companies developing anti malware products really hadn't caught up.

I'm alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll woman < lascivious wink> I think the mistrust was more cos it used to make his comp more or less fall apart everytime he downloaded something lol .It couldnt handle anything new

Well, same thing really. A simple little utility shouldn't cause any machine a problem, but there was so much stuff out there trying to take over your machine in one way or another.
Seems to be all about Toolbars these days. Every bugger wants you to download their Toolbar.
Eee I remember when it was all fields around here. Now you can't see the web for all the Toolbars....
Or something.

I've just re-read this thread, and am so tempted to delete all me posts.
It's not quite as funny as the DVD debacle, but that one had a punchline.

I wish I'd have been in here last night, I could so have added my four-penorth on trying to get my address book into a new netbook that doesn't have a disc drive. I transfered to my GMail on main PC, picked them up on the netbook through website, saved from there to csv (that puts them all into Excel btw, and readable and printable once you redo the column widths). I use Incredimail, that wouldn't pick up the csv file, so had to use OE, and move from there. Took me hours to get to the completion point - or I thought I was complete, but found only A - M had gone through, so still need to go through it all again for N - Z..............

Tch, it doesn't work if we're not privy to the joke! I know ,but it just means you'll have to persuade yord to tell you what he didnt do that I ( foolishly ) presumed he had . I must say I dont get all this transferring and saving of address books -the neccessity for it .I have three mail accounts -one of which is from my ISP and which I never use .One is hotmail ,which works excellently for eBay and private ,and the other is gmail which works excellently for me web page and private .They both allow folders for archiving ,both store addresses -gmail automatically if you tick a box, and I really dont need to store the addresses elsewhere as well as nothing will happen to them even if my comp DOES blow up .And they both have ,what, 10GB's of storage each now ? .Which is a huuuge amount of emails . Oh and has anyone else tried "pop peeper "? Excellent little free prog .I have it set up to notify me just when a hotmail comes in as I have gmail notifier for gmail and like seperate popups for my seperate accounts lol but you can set it up for more then one account .Much like incredimail ( and outlook I presume ) you can also access your mails through it and reply to them ,store addresses etc .Neat little thing it is and only 2,74mb's .And not at all complicated

The incompident bastards do it delibrately. You know I said the addresses wouldnt copy and paste from outlook express, wwwwell it turns out they can . Not by the usual method that any sane and logical person would use , right click , oh feckin no , the warped buggers decided that cntl c and cntl v should be used instead .

"there wasnt many that could run 98 for several years without updates or anti virus and wires that would attempt electricution if you got within a foot of them"
You mean, I should be thinking of moving on from Windows 98?
