"the only way I can find of doing it is to take a screen shot of the list of address's and then save that as a jpg in paint. This dosnt allow for what is in the emails however, and with over 3000 it would take forever. Also although they will highlight , they wont copy and paste. "
See, I took that to mean you could only see the addresses, not the contents. But looking back you did say the folder was created in OE. I missed that.
And now - finally - I think the penny has dropped. This folder you've created, you did from within Outlook itself yes? If so, the reason you can't do anything with it from Windows search, is because it doesn't actually exist as a folder in its own right, on the hard drive.
It's part of the single .dbx file that Outlook uses to store all your messages.
You'd better forget the last three pages. It's all cobblers.

Yes I can see all the addresses saved as one big long list in the folder and if I click on any of them they will open that email from that address. Yes the folder was created in outlook express.

Forget the last three pages he says . LOL . has a quick weep I found this .have no idea if it will do what you want Hmmm...90% of what I just posted got wiped...trying again...I downloaded a piece of software called PowerIE which is v. small less than 5MB. It's a little gem. I was able to cleanly backup Outlook Express email+ addressbook+other junk in a single click. AND I've verified I can restore any part of it into Outlook Express! Cool. I think this is exactly what you want. The link to download PowerIE (free of course !!) is: www.technicland.com/powerie6.php3
To save, open PowerIC, select Outlook Express backup, select email user, give a name to the backup directory, keep the defaults (save messages, address book, signatures, etc) and click save. To restore use File-Import in Outlook Express, browse for the backup file, select the parts to restore, click OK and you're done. All your message sub-folders will be saved separately and all or just certain ones can be restored. As for address book importing a saved one adds to previous list (seems to overwrite existing addresses of same name since OE didn't ask anything about overwriting, but ... thats fine for me). then there's another one that says :
Transferring email messages from Outlook Express can be tricky - the easiest and best way I can find is to export it to Outlook and save it as a Personal Folder File (*.pst).
It's meaningless to me but maybe it makes sense to you or hammer

I dunno if there is. If not, you'll have to right-click each message in turn and select 'add sender to address book'
Then export the contacts list.
The folder itself is, as I said, just a part of the .dbx file. 'File > Export messages' to create a file that can be transferred to a USB stick or whatever.
Dinner time now...

ROFLMAO and I just LOVE this one :
In all the advice given above there is stilll no help given to saving Outlook Express emails to disk,i.e, CD-R ,DVD. It is quite easy to save them to disk with advice given by a reader some time ago,but unfortunately I did not keep a record of this advice, and am now looking again for it.
