Yord, I don't use Outlook, but if I remember rightly....
To save your contacts in a format that can be read by a text reader such as notepad, you need to go into your address book, click File > Export > Other Address Book
Then click Text File (Comma Separated Values) and 'Export'
Is this what you did?

this is the bit that continually puzzles me ( I dont use outlook either so perhaps its obvious to someone else who does ) Why on earth take addresses out of your address book to save in another folder full of addresses ?

I'm not saying they are. I just wondered if that's what you did to create the file you have.
You mention having a .dbx file. But that's not a contact list, it's the emails and everything. It's only of any use to Outlook itself.

No. I clicked on new .....new folder ........and bunged the emails in there. I had intended to print them off and certainly save them to a disc or or usb memory stick. However I cant find a way of doing this. Theyre OK were they are , but not if the comps fecked. I dont really want to lose them

Riiiight... OK I understand, I think. Windows won't be able to open the file.
If you want to read them, you'll have to re-import them in Outlook. If, for now, you just want to keep the file or folder, then just drag it across to your USB stick or whatever, or right-click > send to, and leave them until you need them.

the only way I can find of doing it is to take a screen shot of the list of address's and then save that as a jpg in paint. This dosnt allow for what is in the emails however, and with over 3000 it would take forever. Also although they will highlight , they wont copy and paste.

They dont go into the address book although I could save the address's that way and would have had I know that saving them in a folder would result in this carry on . The emails come in on a screen to be clicked on and read and then I bung the ones I want into the corresponding folders that I created. Then you can see the email address they originated from and if you click on them the original message is still there. All safe, sound and usable, aslong as the comp is OK.

I can find the folder all these emails are in by using search. The folder comes up in search but wont drag anywhere. When I try to open the folder , it now tries to open the folder with notepad and cant . It no longers gives the option of tryng to open with another prog or of letting windows go off and search for another prog to open it with.
