Ah! Yeah, about that ..... What about that? If you don’t remove them what’s the point of any part of the process? Easy: it gives some on the right one more thing to moan about (amongst the panoply they have already). Perhaps this was the main reason for the Tories doing squat-all about the immigration backlog whilst they were in power; perhaps they believed that both their supporters would turn to Nigel "Acceptable Face of Nazism" Farage if the one reason for their miserable existence were to be taken away by the Tory government actually succeeding at something. Career complainers the lot of 'em.

Unless we know where they are, we have no chance of getting to grips with either processing their applications, serving their decisions or getting them on a boat or plane.

So the Tories also lost them? Another failure of the system.
As I’ve said many time, I think the current asylum laws are broken. But if you’re going to have asylum systems you process quickly and once the claim has been judged either remove immediately or welcome them properly with good support to allow effective and friendly integration

I don't disagree with any of that, except that you need to know where they are.

Carrying on this line - if you genuinely think there are tens or hundreds of thousands of people coming from safe countries claiming bullshit asylum as a way around the current immigration laws, the last thing you want is to just keep them here for many years in relatively insecure accommodations, in slumlord housing run by Nicholas van Hoogstraten, giving them opportunities to meander off and fall out of the system. That would encourage them to keep coming. If people learn that the asylum claim has to be serious or you’re f**k*d off out in a couple of weeks then the abuse of the asylum system would reduce pretty rapidly. The Tory method seems to be the worst of all worlds for everyone. It’s pissy and unwelcoming and fucks up actual refugees and encourages abuse and costs and fortune. It was really, really stupid.
I have no faith that Starmer will do any better, but there are lots of ways he could.

Again, agreed. I have no interest in keeping them couped up on our ration strength. Get rid ASAP. I can't see what Starmer's offering to change things as, without a change of doctrine, the problem will suck up any amount of resource, just like the NHS.

So you want to keep secret the amount of money fabulously wealthy people get from the public purse? That sounds a bit forelock tuggy. No, quite the opposite. I think we should be told, but not is they're subcontractors. That was to Andy.

More unexplained handouts from Labour to the BBC: "Dozens of failed asylum seekers from Vietnam are to be sent back to the country on Wednesday, using resources the last government had earmarked for the Rwanda scheme." www.bbc.com/news/articles/cpe388jy2n3o

Nice to see what can be achieved once the grown ups take charge. I expect the Tories are seathing seeing all the government cash no longer going their way

Rather than just spending hundreds of millions promising but failing to store asylum seekers in Africa, actually removing failed ones quickly. I am surprised but pleased - within the context of having an asylum system this is the right thing to do.

Well really e do, failed exPM Sunak spent millions of his failure of a scheme and deported exactly no one. And he was trying it for years. Still, I expect many of his mates made a good amount from the fiasco, and that was probably the point.
