"Accidentally"? Oh yes, Laura. Just like all those times you accidentally asked Johnson and Gove and Cummings exactly what they wanted to be asked and had "sources" which "secretly said" exactly what those guys wanted out in public.

I wonder how much he'll hand over to charity once his living costs have been met.
I do hope he isn't paid by dividend.

Just the four directorships then, Gary. Mmmmm .... 20% income tax. Nice work if you can get it. Perfectly normal and legal of course, but you might want to reflect on that before holding forth.

I see the BBC are trying to cancel Lineker for sometimes holding non-far-right views.

Why is Auntie shilling for the wealthiest? This article is nothing more than a naked appeal for the status quo. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cqlvggr9qz5oWhat they should do is publish individuals' tax payments as a percentage of their incomes. As it is, the numbers are meaningless.

Yeah. They should publish as a percentage of total income (not just regular income) and as a percentage of total wealth and then we'll see if their 3bn actually seems fair.

It's not exactly shocking that the BBC and Treasury are in cahoots saying "measures designed to raise taxes on the rich aren't doing their job so perhaps we should reconsider them". It's the kind of disingenuous spinning aimed at making tax raises seem unreasonable at all without any suggestion of what should be done to pay for vital services. And we know that people at both the Treasury and BBC have friends who are in the top percentiles of earners.
We get our pamphlets through the post describing all the policy measures that we need to vote on in California and San Diego - it's a bizarre system where local and regional government are unable to borrow or raise taxes without approval from voters. Every single one is opposed by a "taxpayers alliance" who argues that "you can't trust politicians to spend your money" and "the cost of living is already too high" and "they've spent your money badly in the past". As if that somehow means that the obvious solution is not investing in anything at all, ever. The two biggies here are city and county sales taxes to pay for transport infrastructure: local road repairs, public transport, cycling stuff and so on; plus state ones for water quality and building dams and for school maintenance. The opposition is always pure opposition - they seem to think because there's some corruption or waste that roads and schools should be left to rot forever.

Yeah, it's meaningless. What they arr saying is "look how much money we're kicking in" when the question should be "how much should you actually be kicking in?"

The BBC weather app is telling me that there are 15,000mph "hurricane" force winds where I am. I wonder if this a Russian hack? There's a message on the screen saying "We're experiencing issues with our forecast data. We're working to resolve it."

Blitz, directed by Sir Steve McQueen, was mostly filmed in early 2023, about a year after Russia's invasion of Ukraine." www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cj4dwgr2y41o

It seems probable, looking at the inclusive cast.

I find it so weird that Steve McQueen as a woke movie director now. You'd always have assumed he was a bit of a sexist meathead from films like Bullit and Towering Inferno. I guess 4 decades of death changes you.
