yep, I suspect the producers can't stand to let a good thing go and too many end up dragging long past their sell by date, Lost is the perfect example of that as well.
I heard a TV pundit a while ago talking about why there are so many re-boots and re-makes when asked if this meant there was a lack of imagination, but his response was quite surprising, he said the reason they do so many re-boots and re-makes is not a lack of imagination, but in fact comes from an over abundance, too many people in the room when new projects are announced that imagine everything that could go wrong, how they, the company, the brand, the makers, the actors and so on will fare if a new show bombs, so opt for safety.

I don't envy people in those jobs. Well I envy their salaries but it must be hard to come up with the goods year after year.

Racism was in steady decline during that time, unlike now, when the laugh police are in force

It’s easy to miss the times when comedy was based on casual racism and sexism when you are not one of the groups it was targeting.
Of course a white person is going to miss the times when white supremacy was the societal norm.

Can anyone recommend Tin Star? No. It is f**k**g terrible and Tim Roth needs a beating.

I've been watching my way through the Oscar best-pic nominated films. And, christ, even I'm feeling the ridiculously heavy-handed wokeness.
Black Panther is a thoroughly average film in a bad genre, but it has black people in so, hey, it must be great Green Book is about how nasty and racist America used to be Blackkklansman is a 1 hr 30 long good film stuck inside a 2 hr 15 long film, of which there are 45 minutes of Spike Lee being as ploddingly tedious about race relations as he could be Vice I've mentioned before, but the second half of it is basically a 20 year old joke about how dumb George W Bush is and how manipulative Dick Cheney is. Roma's at least not heavy handed about the poor Mexican maid, but it's very, very boring.
The films about the gay Zanzibarian and the lesbian 18th century Queen are, oddly, the least annoying.

I've only seen Black Panther. Like you say, it's a middling example from a mostly crappy genre.

I'm surprised you've not seen the Queen film. I mean, it's not particularly good, but it's a fun greatest hits thing.
The Favourite is probably the best of them. It really doesn't have any message. It's just a kind of fun, irreverent period drama made by the bloke who made The Lobster.

I loved Black Panther as a good film. I did love the fact the cat was almost all black but that just added to what was a great film. Plus it’s success winds up a particular kind of social conservative so that makes it all the better :) I don’t think I have seen any of the other Oscar contenders.

I still can't work out what's "good" about Black Panther that makes it better than any of the other superhero mediocrities.

So, I started watching Homecoming after many on here recommended it, and have to say after 4 episodes so far it is rather good, intriguing plot

Same way I can’t work out what’s good about Taken or 50 Shades of Grey. You are doing that thing again where you get confused by people liking different things to you.

Could you explain what makes it better than other superhero flicks?

I was a bit surprised that the mountain clan were represented by gorillas. Seemed a bit racist.

Could you explain what makes it better than other superhero flicks? I thought it was an excellent film. The story, the setting, the scenery, the action etc. “Better than” is entirely subjective as it’s art. So put your goalposts back as that is not what you said earlier. You said you can’t work out what’s “good about it” but that’s because you struggle with the concept of people liking different things.

The only genuinely good superhero films are the old Superman ones and Guardians of the Galaxy. They are good films and not just "Good for a superhero film, film".
