Actually, that appears to have been the correct decision. Although if it was down to me, any decision within half a ball's width would be "umpire's call".

VAR is supposed to correct clear and obvious decisions that are wrong... Not subjective decisions that are not any clearer after a dozen viewings... Also slo mo doesn’t help matters.. S it doesn’t measure the degree to which someone is touched.... Etc etc Coming to the prem next season 😱

VAR is fucking appalling. But the offside decision there was one of its least terrible uses in this tournament.

Looked off side to me, and the penalty was soft, VAR has the potential to totally ruin the game, its been appalling all tournament.
Have to say though England (women or men) are sh!t at taking penalties.

In the US it seems a bit weird: the women's national team gets more support and wins loads more than the men. Why on earth wouldn't they be paid the same (or more)? Obviously the club salaries are lower, but for the national team... I don't understand why the loser blokes get paid more.

They don't it would seem
The women's team has been paid more on both a cumulative and an average per-game basis than the men's team over the class period."

it would seem maths isnt their strong point:
Rapinoe said.
'Basically it's like if I earn $1 every time I play and I man earns $3,' she explained, using a theoretical tournament as an example. '[If I] win ten games and he only wins three games… I make $10 and he made $9.
'I'm not sure how that's me making more money while having to essentially win everything that we could possibly have won over these past few years, two World Cups and just about every game we played. So it sort of for me missed the point but it was very disappointing to be honest.'
However:
Over the period in question, between 2015 and 2019, the US women's team played 11 games, earning $24.5 million in salary. The US men played 87 games and were paid $18.5 million, although that figure would have been dramatically larger had they won the 2018 World Cup, or even qualified for that matter.

The US Womens' team only played 11 games in 4 years? Allow me to express my suspicion that this data point is wrong, or deliberately massively misleading, like ignoring every non world cup match when the US Womens' team didn't need to qualify because they were already champions.

It would appear to be a misprint:
It is undisputed that, during the class period, the WNT played 111 total games and made $24.5 million overall, averaging $220,747 per game. By contrast, the MNT played 87 total games and made $18.5 million overall, averaging $212,639 per game. Based on this evidence, it appears that the WNT did not make more money than the MNT solely because they played more games. Rather, the WNT both played more games and made more money than the MNT per game. (S.J. Order at p. 18).
However the brunt of the argument from the Ladies appears to be that if the men had won the world cup, they would have earned far more than the ladies did for winning the Ladyball world cup which is where it gets absurd.
if the US men had won the world cuo they would have had an audience of the entire planet whereas the ladies had an audience of 12, including their families.

It's the same as for any entertainment, you get paid for your pulling power. if a lot of people watch you, you get paid a lot, if you can't fill the upstairs room at the Effra Hall tavern you don't get paid a lot.

That's true of pro ladysports, and also true of international ladysports outside the US. But inside the US more people watch international ladyball than manball, more people know who the ladyballers are.
Nobody expects Barcelona ladies to get paid as much as Lionel Messi. More people watch Barcelona Dudes.

The only reason I can think of that I don't get paid the same per gig as Beyonce is bigotry against me. Gigotry.

That's entirely fair, which is why they get paid more.
However if the men were as successful as the ladies that probably wouldn't hold good. it's a ridiculous argument, if the men won the world cup the rewards would be massive, much more than the ladies winning the ladyball.
