Since we're a bunch of aging and already aged blokes here, how many of us listen and rate bands from this century, almost every time we talk about music it's from minimum 35 years ago.

That's not music! Fair play. The same thought crossed my mind. There's nothing new under the sun of course, but there are a few bands I quite like. Can't think of any off the top of my head, but I think I've posted more modern music on here than the rest of you fogueys put together.

Steely Dan and R.E.M. are quite different but yeah, Steely Dan easily.
Here’s a good comparison: Lynyrd Skynyrd or the Allman Brothers? For me it’s the Allman Brothers, no doubt about it.

I hear new music through my daughter. Most sounds terrible to me but there have been a few that I thought sounded pretty good.

My son liked Imagine Dragons a while back, they weren't too bad. Can't stand the ginger tw@t or that maudlin warbler Adel. Though I do hear the odd tune on the radio I like, I just don't know who most of the bands and artists are outside a handful.

I’ll have to ask her the names of a couple I liked. One of her favorites is BTS. They are hugely popular but I wasn’t so impressed.
Not exactly new, but John Mayer is a very good guitarist.

The Allmans over Skynyrd any day although I really like Skynyrd. The Allmans are in my top 5 favourite bands. Blackberry Smoke are very good "current" southern rock band. They have been around about 20 years or so and appear to be in their 40s so not exactly new.
Music is shitter now than it used to be. That's just a scientific fact.

Controversially here, I always thought he was massively over rated, did some good stuff in the 60s but got really sh*t through the 70s and ended up tedious by the 80s and 90s

I saw L Skynyrd at Blackbush Airdrome they were a fantastic live band...but it has to be The Allman Brothers.

Steely Dan > REM Lynyrd > Allmans - I've no idea why but I've always had a blind spot to the Allmans. There's something I just don't quite like.
Music from this century - I've liked almost everything I've heard by Wilco, but even that's all over a decade old now. I actually don't mind Taylor Swift, although I don't get the excitement. I find lots of modern rap to be wet and pathetic, and modern "rock" and folk-rock to be even wetter.

but I still went to a pub which had trad jazz bandsin your Duffel coat and beret? Haha... nearer the truth than you think - the old Mod beret came in handy. And yes, I had an ex-naval duffelcoat with a bullet-hole in it. Best pub in my neck of the woods was the Green Man on Blackheath Hill. The Mitre on Blackwall Tunnel Ave was good as well.

smoking Gitanes or Gauloises ...wearing shades, accompanied by a big-titted bird in long woolly jumper and sandals. Smoking a reefer.
