FBI conducting a raid on Trumps home, stripping documents and stuff hidden in his safe.
Noose is tightening.

This is after two big news stories today.
One is the NYT's proof that Trump was trying to flush official paperwork down the loos, unaware of how plumbing works.
Second was a piece talking about where he was complaining that all the generals he'd appointed to Cabinet weren't behaving like "Those German Generals". When asked which, he said "The World War 2 ones".
-
The thing is, those two stories look like they're probably from Republican insiders trying to throw him under the bus. They may have known this was coming, too. I suspect that we're now at the stage where a lot of senior Republicans think he's taking all the oxygen from the room, and is now actively damaging not just for 2024, but also for 2022. The presence of people like Kari Lake in the Arizona Senate race make a totally winnable Senate seat in what should be a wave year for Republicans now look like actually quite a large reach.
They need Trump out of the picture, and I think this is them now trying to work it. They are absolutely desperate for him to not run again in 2024 and to just vanish.

Yeah, conviction of mishandling official gov docs, especially all the super top secret stuff he stole when he left and kept in a back closet at Mar A Largo, would mean he was barred from ever running for federal office again.
The stuff about him thinking third reich generals were fully behind Hilter and not knowing they tried 3 times to kill him is hilarious.

There's a cohort on Twitter that think that while the Presidential Records stuff is superficially what's going on here, that the FBI wouldn't have got a search warrant unless they had probable cause of a much more serious crime that they would find evidence of.

And talking of the FBI, there's now a bunch of absolute grade A right wing loons like MTG and Paul Gosar adopting the arguments of the US hard-left, shouting for the FBI to be defunded or disbanded.

This is like when they got Capone for tax evasion, Trump tried to lead a coup but prosecuting him for his sedition would be massively hard, getting him for stealing top secret docs, chewing up, tearing up and flushing government docs is probably an easy way to keep him from attempting another Coup.
That being said the GOP no longer really needs Trump, they are just happy to be Trumpy, and the look at De Santis as being just as Trumpy, but more competent and focused of enacting all the regressive stuff the GOP stands for now (they don't have policies anymore, it's all regression and authoritarian now)

I see America's now Biden's Banana Republic. Hounding your political opponents via a corrupt legal system.

What ever happened to the right claiming only guilty people attack law enforcement and defunding police forces was a terrible idea?
Oh, I remember now, rank hypocrisy.

Yeah. The meme is taking the piss out of the fact that Trump is the only President who's so utterly criminal that he has to plead the fifth 400 times - ironically in a civil case where not testifying can be used as evidence of implied guilt...
I'm not sure UncleJr gets this.

I appear to have misplaced whichever the thread about Trump was.
Anyway, looks like the NY AG is bringing a civil case against the Trump family for a whole bunch of fraud and lying and inflating asset values in order to get loans. Two things about this:
One, the consequences might be pretty bad for Trump if the AG gets what it's asking for: $250m fine, plus barred from being on the board of any company doing business in NY, plus the Trump organisation banned from buying real estate in New York.
Two: it's a civil case, which means that any time Trump took the fifth to not answer questions about how he came to his valuations, any jury can view that as an attempt to hide the truth. The fifth only applies in criminal cases.
