This seems to be on the wrong thread. Boris is a traitor, but this was about different traitors trying to desperately cling on to power. At the moment, unlike them, Boris isn’t yet trying to cling on through a coup d’etat. He'll win the confidence vote. But the Tories are Donald Ducked in two years: he's incorrigible so won't suddenly become a good PM; while his replacement, whoever it is, won't be able to reform the government and repair the damage in the time left. The only chance they've got is to keep Johnson and call an election now.

I agree, it's probably a great time for Bozza to step aside. He'll take the wind out of the BBC's campaign against democracy and will almost certainly usher in a bevvy of beauties and ethic lovelies.
Starmer's no competition. They could field a selection of actual tits and he'd still end up sucking his thumb.

Labour's the reason the Tories are still there.

No ones mentioned Gove, he's been lusting after the job almost as long as Boris was, sure he's another chancer and deeply unpopular, but you can bet he'll be maneuvering madly to get the PMship

He may go on to be a grandee, but he's not PM material. He's lost his battle to be PM and there's so much strength in depth and diversity that it's hard to imagine a white bloke being needed.

True. You can imagine the likes of Gove taking a back seat but gently steering the bame PM, like the Gods of Olympus guiding mankind.

Because there's no obvious successor (what Mids ironically describes as strength in depth) they all think they can get the top job and will be upset if someone else gets it. Gove, Raab, Hunt, Patel, Sunak, Rees-Mogg and many more believe they're the next PM.
The interesting thing is that they've all stated that they're voting for Boris. They have to say that, obviously. Not only in case he wins, but for fear of appearing disloyal to the party faithful.
But it's a secret ballot. I wonder how many who publicly claim to have confidence in Boris are actually preparing to secretly stab him in the back.

Well, as they’re cut from the same cloth as Johnson, the chances are better than evens that they’ll say one thing but do another. That is to say, they’ll lie.
Johnson’s Tories being somewhat economical with the truth - whodathunkit eh?

From the BBC website. Who knew that old Tory MPs had such a sense of humour?

He's right though. There's never been a better time to hand over to hand on the baton. Safe hands to safe hands.

The left are utterly desperate for Boris to go. They recognise his utter superiority over them. Strength in depth mind. Any Tory is utterly superior to Starmer.

211 to 148 is a BRILLIANT result. We now have the very real possibility of Johnson leading the Tories into the next election.
Happy days.

Good lord. Imagine being worse less popular than May was at the end of her tenure?

This is brilliant. Just the result the left didn't want.
