So, it looks like 439 MPs have no confidence in Boris and 211 have confidence in him. It's time to go to the country for an election, I think.

Partygate. Just want to keep that front and centre, and then let the people decide (whenever Johnson decides to cut and run).

The result means 59% of Conservative MPs backed Mr Johnson, with 41% voting against him. He needed a majority… Doesn’t all of this sound familiar..?

You'd imagine that Tory MPs are among the more Tory and therefore more loyal to Boris parts of the country. If under 50% of Tory MPs who aren't actively currently appointed to jobs by Boris can vote for him, imagine how appalling his image in the wider world is.

Let Johnson do more damage (renege on agreements he himself struck, hold back on monies to help the poorest, stoke his pre-election war chest with tax bribes for the gullible etc. etc.) whilst we keep Partygate in the public eye. The 148 this evening have struck a blow that weakens this supposed leader and, whilst he remains in power, this administration will now lurch from crisis to crisis. Politically speaking, the Tories are now coughing up blood.

It would be interesting to see the remoaner-brexiteer mix of the vote too, to see how many of the losers are still seeking revenge for Brexit……
And …..in the 2019 leadership election, Boris got 51% of the MPs vote so, if my maths is correct, he's done better tonight that he did when he was elected.

It's brilliant. The BBC are struck dumb.

Boris just needs to win in Ukraine and let Partygate resolve itself before handing over to Tughendat for a landslide Tory win.

So very, very true. Boris Johnson, Hammer of the Russians.
"Nadhim Zahawi, the education secretary, told Sky News that Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the Ukrainian president, would be “punching the air” tonight because his ally, Boris Johnson, will remain as PM tomorrow."

Beeboids are apocalyptic at the moment … it’s hilarious 😊 What constitutes a “win” in modern day politics any more…?? Has Starmer resigned yet …?😉

You love Rory Stewart. Military man and Tory and fantasist. Exactly the kind of person you'd follow if he wasn't stabbing your other hero in the back.

Hardly a military man. Sounds like the sort of self-declared genius that you go gooey over.

Our Prometheus. A Titan, but only one of the Tory Pantheon.
What's striking about all this frenzied politicking is how little it actually matters. Leaders of political parties come and they go. When Our Lady of Port Stanley was assassinated, there was nothing more to say. It was over. The frenzy just petered out. New day, new PM. That's politics.
Now, Boris has held the top job. He's won elections, he's beaten the Russinas and Covid and he's defeated the conspirators in his own party. He's won. He's been a charismatic and popular leader in tumultuous times. His name liveth evermore. Who will remember Ms. Keunensberg or whatsit Mason?
In time, having made his point, Boris will step aside. When he judges the time is right.
A man with a plan.

His name liveth evermore. Who will remember Ms. Keunensberg or whatsit Mason? In time, having made his point, Boris will step aside. When he judges the time is right. A man with a plan. Two true statements in this One, nobody will remember the terrible Tory lackey Kuenssberg. For the longest time, of course, she was backing Boris. But she seems closer to Gove and Cummings, so it wouldn’t surprise me if she’s been doing their bidding in this internal Tory bickerfest. This is her thing. She is a tool of the Tory party when it comes to inter-party politics, but when it’s intra-party she’s going to be being played by one side against the other. Two, you are correct: none of it matters. Compared even to previous Tory leaders, Boris Johnson is utterly shameless and completely fine with f**k**g the party for the benefit of his own ego. He will blithely claim to come out of this stronger despite almost all of the non-payroll MPs voting against him, less popular among his own backbenchers than he is, astonishingly, among the country at large (despite being incredibly unpopular in the country at large). He’s taken the Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin approach of just pretending reality doesn’t exist and claiming victory. It appears that if he won the Tory MPs by one single vote he’d have claimed a massive victory and vindication and blundered on cluelessly leading up to his impending (but not soon enough) electoral crushing.
