Funny but also quite sad that the left are unable to enjoy the Lionesses victory because they're too busy obsessing about the ethnicity of the players, the fact that white working class people are enjoying the victory, any flags on show that weren't either the EU or Palestinian flags, and why there were no transgender players. They're obsessed and it's ruining their lives.

I like that you're just not hiding it anymore, your top 3 obsessions one post, though its a nice touch after obsessively obsession about your usual obsessions, you top the hilarity by pretending its others who are the real obsessives. Still, the right, always trying to accuse others of things they are guilty of.

How utterly bizarre that the headline of an article politicising England's win is pretending to be upset that we can't enjoy it without politicising it. The right are so messed up.

Anyway, despite not seeing the final, a couple of thoughts on the tournament.
Basically, once the "big teams" were playing each other - Spain, England, France, Germany, Sweden, Norway (to a degree) - it looked like real, serious football. It looked at least as good as what you'd see at Oxford United on a Saturday. There was enough speed of movement and thought to match the better skill you get among the top players. I didn't really have to discount it in my mind as watching "womens football". It was just watching football. Which is great. But people have been overplaying this. In the earlier parts of the tournament there were definitely teams, and quality of football, that looked slow and laboured and unskilled, the way I remember womens football being a decade or two ago. It's harsh, perhaps, to judge Iceland or Northern Ireland, where the womens game is just getting established, by these standards. But we shouldn't pretend it's not basically still a bit rubbish and like watching something from the Northern Premier League (or maybe a seniors tournament).
But it is coming. It's getting better. There are going to be times - like with womens tennis - where it's better to watch than the mens game, provided you're more interest in skills and the contest rather than just pure speed and power.

Yeah, I think that sounds about right, not that I know much about it.

I only saw the final and enjoyed it despite not expecting much. There's more skill than I expected. There is quite a bit of bigging it up by BBC types though. Mistakes are ignored and skillful moves are exaggerated. I think interest will fade, probably not back to previous levels but I don't think there are enough "top" clubs currently, to sustain widespread interest in it. The real test will be to see how support for the lower clubs goes and whether there's enough interest and investment to pay for players and all the support that goes along with success in football.

I genuinely think that the constant real-time diversity critique will do more harm than good.
People are wise to that wank now. Get on board, or don't.

Well apparently it was drawing bigger and bigger crowds back in the day before the FA banned it.

She means during the First World War when the chicks stepped up while the chaps were in France. The FA didn't ban it as such. They just didn't allow the games to be played at FA clubs' grounds and they didn't support it. The chicks could quite easily have formed their own FA and gone their own way. For some reason they chose not to.
