The Romans used to crucify people as far as the eye could see along the avenues leading up to their temples. Imagine the smell. The Italians aren't that bad.

Time to educate you lot . . The fish symbol - at the time in ancient Israel, an image drawn in the sand to greet each other without being obvious to unbelievers (Christianity was illegal) The greek word for fish IXOYE (I)Jesus (X)Christ (O)Son of (Y)God (E)Saviour The crucifixion pole is used by the Jehovah Witnesses, instead of the Cross (used by the rest of the world) The above information is correct by the best of my recollections from the distant past

When I was young, the fish symbol was quite common, as stickers on cars.
Don't see it so much now, though that might just be my deteriorating eyesight.

The fish symbol on a car is almost always driven by oldies, moving painfully slowly, almost always on a Sunday.
Most often, it is now seen in a hilarious corrupted way, with legs, and forming the word "Darwin". This always strikes me as a lot of effort for quite a weak diss. It probably carries more weight with the Bible-bashers in America.

As it's Easter Sunday.
As I understand it - God sent his only Son to die on the cross to deliver mankind from our original sin. The original sin being The Fall - ie when Adam took the bite from the Tree of Knowledge that God had told him not to eat from.
But there was no Garden Of Eden. There was no Adam and Eve. There is no Original Sin.

Though once evolution was understood and geological time was understood, religion was reduced to the increasingly small 'god of the gaps'

"Son of God" is somewhat misleading. Jesus (the) Christ was God, made Man. Incarnate. Made flesh.

Yesterday’s TV had a rather good gag: Jesus was a nepobaby. How easy is it to start a religion when your dad is god?
I’ve always concerned about the potential incest question of being your own dad. And the moral implications of god committing suicide.

Again, Jesus is nor the son of God in the sense that Mr. G married a local lass and they had a baby.
I think this may be where the Church took a bit of a wrong turn with the narrative, maybe leaving the script open for a "Who Shot JR?" plot twist.
Similarly, Christ is sacrificed, he doesn't commit suicide. He is put to death by Earthly authorities, acting in a grubby, deceitful and cruel manner. This, of course, highlights the fallibility of the temporal authorities, and makes common the struggle with the common person (amongst many other things). It's quite clever really.

When someone asked Gautama Buddha what was the difference between him and everyone else, he said, "I'm awake." Jesus was another 'awake' person (no, not woke - f**k off with that), awake meaning being aware of what is. I don't know if anyone here's ever been into meditation, but you can reach a state when everything suddenly becomes startlingly clear - but it usually doesn't last very long. The major problem with being aware is that you can see the all the faults of society and those around you, and it's best to keep you mouth shut, especially in primitive societies.

Artistic licence, I suppose. Also, peurile, crass and unfunny. their point is to be as hateful as they possibly can. if we did the same to Hinduism, Islam, or Buddhism, they would be outraged.

Yeah, well, if they can't take a bit of mildly challenging pisstaking, maybe they should have a bit of a think.

Well, it's not suicide if you know you won't actually die. That's sort of the essence of it.
