I went to Sunday School.
Heavy duty Religious Studies lesson at school.
Joined the choir in my local church - Sung Matins and Evensong every Sunday - did Weddings on Saturday (got 2/6 !)
Joined the Crusaders (a Christian Sunday School)
It wasn't easy to lose my faith - but it was worth it - I am now a devout Atheist and am at peace.
I still love the smell of Church, I love Churches and adore Choral Music.

So if Jesus is god, rather than the son of god, and he knew he was going to die and did it anyway, then it seems basically a version of suicide-by-cop. Well, it's not suicide if you know you won't actually die. That's sort of the essence of it. So it’s not really a big deal, then? Faking your death but not actually dying, no actual sacrifice as you know you’re not going to be dead. |

Artistic licence, I suppose. Also, peurile, crass and unfunny. their point is to be as hateful as they possibly can. if we did the same to Hinduism, Islam, or Buddhism, they would be outraged. Go for it, I have no particular affinity to any of those fairy tales either, hey throw in the tooth fairy while your at, that b!ich and her tooth fetish is just as sick really |

Again, Jesus is nor the son of God in the sense that Mr. G married a local lass and they had a baby. I think this may be where the Church took a bit of a wrong turn with the narrative, maybe leaving the script open for a "Who Shot JR?" plot twist. Similarly, Christ is sacrificed, he doesn't commit suicide. He is put to death by Earthly authorities, acting in a grubby, deceitful and cruel manner. This, of course, highlights the fallibility of the temporal authorities, and makes common the struggle with the common person (amongst many other things). It's quite clever really. Well the story goes she was married to some other bloke, despite being 12 when gods angel knocked her up, so it was adultery and possibly a but rapey. And if you believe this god exists as the story depicts it, all knowing, omnipresent not tied to time and space byt existing seperate in some nebulous way, then yeah the manner of JCs death was not only known prior the girl getting knocked up, but part of the plan to, as the myth goes, absolve the sin of a rib lady tricked by a snake made by this god to eat a fruit the god said was not to be eaten. It's a nice fireside story I suppose, but nothing to base laws and institutions on |

Yeah, but you're English and the CoE and other offshoots stopped being literal after the enlightenment.
Sadly there are still many christian sects who do believe the stories are literally true, same with jewish sects and islamic sects who believe their version of the same tale is the literal truth.
