I've come to the conclusion that cooking while pissed tends to lead to disappointing results. I do drink a little when cooking, but I feel that it's better if I'm clear-headed. Also, my own appetite is better. Still, I'm on the wagon at the moment, so perhaps I'm coming across like an ex-smoker. Mrs. B's aunt has just given up fags after 50 years. We've been saying for ages she should try vaping. She did, and pretty much knocked fags off overnight. She says she feels great. Agreed. My appetite is lost after too much drink but occasionally I don't give a f**k. Dinner was good anyway and although took a few hours, was a doddle to prepare. You don't need to think much about meals you've made before. Good for Mrs B's aunt! We tried to get my grandma to quit for years. She wasn't a heavy smoker but as she got older she'd have a nap in the afternoon and drop a half-smoked cig on the carpet. We were terrified she'd toast herself, but she reached 90yo - still smoking - and was active right to the end. Lovely old lady. One downside to the drinking while cooking. I was asleep by 10pm and now wide awake at 4am. Bugger...

I never had that “appetite fades because of drinking”. My appetite goes crazy, but for particularly fatty and greasy foods (and the same the next morning) which means booze has a triple-impact on the waistline.

Yeah I'm the same. Those almost painful hunger pangs when you've been drinking on an empty stomach are horrible.
