It's still very much a nothing burger, and as these things go, about as mild as we've seen, Obama not withstanding, for decades. Not sure about Carter, but from LBJ to Trump presidential pardons have been widely misused to pardon cronies and dodgy family members. And as Hunter was hounded for years and prosecuted to embarrass his dad for an offence that's never normally prosecuted then it is righting a small wrong and is trivial when taken against past abuse of this power, and, about to be dwarfed by what Trump is promising to use it for.

See. Pearl clutching.
"Oooh! A politician said he wouldn't do something and then did it! This is such an outrage, particularly when it's a pretty trivial thing. It's totally unlike when I didn't comment on all the right wing politicians who both did this thing, and did other things they said they wouldn't. My poor faint heart! How will I survive this horror?"

Brilliant. The Left are turning themselves into pretzels over this.

In what way exactly. Once you've dried your eyes and stilled your faint beating heart, explain

Brilliant. The Left are turning themselves into pretzels over this. You're confusing yourself with the left? That's a new one.

In what way exactly. Once you've dried your eyes and stilled your faint beating heart, explain That's easy, it's very straightforward: your hero said categorically that he wouldn't abuse his powers to pardon his own son. Then he abused his powers and pardoned his son. Then he ran away. No contortion needed. You, deffo. It's pitiful to watch. Like Vicky Pollard on steroids.

Well, you - and the rest of the right - are the onse pretending it's important that politicians stick to their word or else it's the end of society. While having spend years telling us that politicians should not be taken at their word. You are the ones pretending that it's an outrage that a presidential pardon is used prejudicially even though it's always been used that way. Trying yourselves in knots while clutching your pearls.

Then he abused his powers and pardoned his son. Then he ran away. He did, indeed, do this. And then you had paroxysms about how this behaviour is the harbinger of the end-times rather than entirely normal.

In what way is it different to Charles Kushner, say, or Roger Clinton?
Except, of course, that those prosecutions hadn't been created as a result of the faux outrage on the right pressuring the justice department to act on a matter they'd usually ignore.

Well as I never opined on his saying he wouldn't do this (I actually always thought it likely he would) me saying I fine given the trivial nature of it especially when contrasted against past abuses of the pardon power, and what's coming, I fail to see the pretzel analogy holding up As for your hysteria about politicians changing their minds or saying one thing and doing the other, when you apply that across the board rather than pearl clutching selectively, then your hysterics might have less of a pungent raw onion smell about them

"Changing their mind" is fabulous. Hahaha. He's barely got a mind left to change.

Yes, trivial, no one ever gets prosecuted for this, it only happened as a result of a decade long campaign to attack Hunter as way to get to his dad. It's not as if he embezzled millions Or killed anyone, he filled out a form wrong.

He lied about being on drugs on a form for buying a gun. I'd bet a solid 30 to 50% of gun sales in this country go to people who fail that, yet it is never prosecuted for anyone except Hunter Biden. It is pretty witch-hunty.
And it was only pushed to the point of prosecutions after the right failed to get him done for things he didn't do wrong, like his work in Ukraine, and their meltdown over his laptop.

It was just the gun thing, was it? Okay.
Keep on contorting, strudelists.
