Yes and no. It’s an interesting comparison - Starmer really doesn’t have much of a democratic mandate. He’s just got a lot of MPs by a quirk of the daft electoral system. More people probably opposed Corbyn but also lots more people were enthused by him too.

Corbyn winning Islington is genuinely funny. And a terrible indictment of Starmer. Although a bigger indictment of the Tories that a fully splitting center-left vote happened and they still finished with fewer than 10% of Corbyn’s votes.

I thought Jones comment was funny because he seemed to thing it means something. It’s not really surprising he would win it - highly educated, progressive area - it was always going to go Corbyn. |
