I've got a Jewish friend who is now pregnant with her Muslim husband's child. Frankly, if my mates can manage to get on despite religious differences I don't see why everyone else can't. Here! Here! Good on the pair of them. Breaking down those ignorant stereotypes! Peace all-over!

The Jew is agnostic and the Muslim is a believer. What an objectionable cnut then. And no doubt the child will be brought up as a muslim. It's muslim belief that everyone is born a muslim, so unless the kid apostacises he'll be muslim by default. As I said, your tale would be much more heart-warming if it was a 'muslim' girl bearing the child of an infidel. The indoctrinated hatred of the 'other' comes from Islam only.

Why is he an objectionable cnut for believing in God?
I've just told you the child will not be brought up as any religion.
Why would it be any different if the girl was a Muslim instead?

It's not objectionable to believe in god, it's objectionable to choose Islam as the form of religious belief that he chooses to take. Read the Koran. If that's 'God' I'd hate to see what the Islamic devil would be like.
Actually it'd probably be a gay, laid back hindu.
And you ask why would it be different, if their genders were swapped. Because a muslim man is allowed to marry a woman if she is a 'person of the book', but a muslim woman isnt allowed to marry a christian or jewish man. So if the gender roles were reversed, it might signal some relaxation of the strict Islamic rules based on unbelievers being unclean filth.
This is purely my conjecture, but I think you'll find that your muslim mate's religion is merely in abeyance and will assert itself once the child is born.

I don't think he chose Islam. He's Gambian, I think it was, like most religious people, something he acquired at birth through the cultural norms of society.
"This is purely my conjecture"
You don't say.

I know a Jew/Muslim family, too. He is Jewish, she is a Muslim. They have two delightful daughters who have been raised without any burdens of religion.

The Jew is agnostic and the Muslim is a believer. This string is really stupid. There was this war where people were killed and wounded and here you go blab ling on some silly graffiti - as if it has any relevance to anything. As to the Jewish - Muslim couple: According to Islam the religion of he child is according to the father. In Judaism the child's religion is that of the mother. Some time ago an old Arab grandmother in the West Bank was about to pass away, so she gathered all her children and told them that she is Jewish, and gave them her papers to prove it. Instantly all of them rushed to the the Israeli offices and applied as Olim.....

In that case I'm so sorry to disappoint Cobbs... I'm glad they didn't have to ask permission to marry from him.
;D
From Wikipedia:
"XXX" was born in Helsinki to Jewish parents. His father Abraham was a Polish Jew who had been in a concentration camp, while his mother was a Finnish Jew. He has been married to "YYY", a member of the Finnish Muslim Tatar community, since 1982 and has two daughters.

Perhaps you think that I make my comments relative to whose side I am on?. It would make me happy to know that on this subject Berty and I might agreeeee....

Well you pretty much agreed with my conjecture, that his religion is incidental. ie he's not a true 'believer'. Well clearly he doesn't follow the Cobbsian strand of Islam, so if that's what you mean by "not a true believer" then he is not. He certainly thinks of himself as a Muslim and believes in God though. Your conjecture to which I was expressing mild disdain was that he is about to fling off the cloak of normalcy and become the rabid, globe-dominating political monster that all Muslims secretly really are deep down. I know, as does everyone by now, that you've read the Koran. I just don't think that means you know everything about every Muslim.
