Based on my knowledge of the FJ and friends old testamenty would mean I couldn't eat:
Shellfish Beef and cheese Fishes without scales (I think).
And as I happily eat all of those I really doubt I'm Old Testamenty. I also ate a scorpion. I'm sure that's not kosher.

I think we're agreed that when Van says she wouldn't bother booking in advance for a restaurant, it's because she's clearly got no taste for food and is really a bit of a freak. Some of my colleagues have actually said they're making a record of my eating habits as they find them bizarre (although most of them don't find the pork thing particularly outlandish).

But if you don't eat pork, almost all restaurants that are not Indian or Moroccan will seem a bit like barren wastelands.

And yet in 30 years it has never ever been an issue (I lie, one lunch place in Singapore.)
Strange that.

Did you know that the process of becoming a Rastafarian is called Ionisation?

Yes and rastafarianism is becoming more and more popular in Jamaica. Ionisation across the nation.

Hey KK. You still on holiday you lazy git? We used to be paid 5c each for sea urchins and we used to winkle them out of the rocks underwater with forks. Maybe it was 2c each, I can't remember, but we also used to get decent money for octopus as well - you used to be able to buy harpoons which were powered by a whacking great rubber band. Low tech, but effective.

It's a Maltese thing Noam, you have to be adventurous or risk offending little old ladies, and that's something you don't do here.
So help you God.

Leaving here on Monday Baloo, not heading home yet, I think most Aussie airports are closed anyway, that volcanic ashcloud is causing havoc still apparently.

In place of bacon, I have discovered chorizo. Slice into 1/8th" pieces and microwave for 30 seconds or so. Delicious, and most of the fat is left behind (shockingly so).

I miss my Paella woman in Brisbane. She would always make her paella with just seafood - no chorizo.

Chorizo is great, of course. Proper Spanish chorizo is relatively hard to come by here. Most chorizo is Mexican which is more like a spiced minced pork rather than a heavy paprika hard sausage.
I've taken to cooking bacon in the oven. In America all bacon is streaky, and streaky bacon should be crispy crunchy so laying it out on a baking sheet and cooking it until almost all the fat is rendered out, then draining it on kitchen paper, works really well. Also, all the fat is rendered out so it's *cough* healthy, too.

Looking back and this decades old thread…so many batshit comments!
People thinking bacon smells good Noam and his obsessive nature (if he is not currently in jail for stalking and harassment related charges I will eat my hat) Fandy thinking only Moroccan and Indian restaurants have plentiful non pork options And Baloo not understanding how (tall) women’s bodies work.
Batty!

I had a sausage sandwich for lunch. I think I might even prefer sausage sandwiches to bacon ones.
