Muhammad is now the most popular boys name in the UK in 2023.
Is this a problem?
The proportion of the overall population who identified as “Muslim” increased from 4.9% (2.7 million) in 2011 to 6.5% (3.9 million) in 2021. I’m not sure of the current figures.
Recently France, Germany and the Scandinavian country have all been making noises about their cultures being adversely affected by immigration.

How many years will it take before England becomes a Caliphate?

It's no big deal and the stats are misleading. I once knew three brothers, all called Muhammad. Muhammad something. It's a cultural naming convention. They were actually known as Raz, Fiz and Ridzal. Lovelt Malaysian lads. Still in touch today.

Why would it be a problem? Muslims are just clearly less adventurous when it comes to naming boys.

But I don’t see why I should care about people being boring when naming their kids.

Yeah my point was that making up only 6.5% of the population while leading with the most common baby name, a huge number of those babies from the 6.5% are named Muhammad.

I saw a news item that I thought was of interest.

I posted it and, as is often used in debate, posed a question - hoping to stimulate an interesting discussion.
I made it clear I had no particular view on the subject.

Discussion is great, but if you had wanted that, then better to have simply reported the fact and asked what people thought. You only got the reactions you did by asking if this meant the UK was going to become a Muslim theocracy, a thing you then admitted was never gonna happen (begging the question why bother asking in the first place).

And obviously the fact Mohammed being the most popular name indicated those using it lack imagination while the rest use a huge variety.

To be fair, if you'd said it was interesting that Muhammad was the UK's most popular name, I think that's an interesting factoid.

Also that it's Muhammad, as I would think the various Mohamed-style variations on the theme would dilute it.

But you posited it as a concern. You mentioned countries being adversely affected by immigration. You talked about the UK becoming a caliphate. All three of which, put together, suggest a less than neutral position on the matter.

The interesting point about the names is that it seems that the second most popular one is Noah, so that suggests another weird religious affectation. Theo - which means god, I guess - is third.

What is wrong with British parents?

The other names are less surprising, but also what the f**k is it with British parents giving their kids pre-shortened names rather than the real names
